Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sales are to be suspended following issues with the battery. We reported yesterday issues with the Galaxy Note 7 with regard to the cell phone catching fire or exploding while or shortly after charging. Samsung has now stated that it will suspend sales until the problem has been resolved and replacements made available. South Korean company, Samsung, stated that replacement devices would not be available for around two weeks.

Galaxy Note 7 Sales issue Vs iPhone 7 Launch

This is a bad time for this to happen to Samsung. Its major rival, Apple, has scheduled an event for September 7 when, given the date, it is expected to reveal the new iPhone 7. It should be revealed Wednesday but it won’t be launched then. It should be in the shops by Friday 16th which is likely before Samsung will have got its problem solved. The issue could not have arisen at a worse time.

Recalls have traditionally been very damaging to businesses and this recall will be in progress while the new iPhone 7 is being launched in the stores. The Galaxy Note 7 had been getting excellent reviews, which have been dampened somewhat now.

Exploding Cell Phone Not Good Advertising

A new exploding cell phone is not the way to retain customers, particularly after the Galaxy S7 charging and power issues. Shipments of the Note 7 to the top three South Korean carriers have been halted pending extended quality control testing of the model. The Galaxy Note 7 is a phablet that comes with a large screen. Samsung also provides a stylus with the model in addition to an iris scanner that unlocks the phone.

The issue first came to light on August 29 when a YouTube account under the name Ariel Gonzales posted a video showing a Galaxy Note 7 with a damaged screen and burnt rubber casing.  According to Gonzales, he charged the cell phone using the official Samsung charger, unplugged it and the phone caught fire shortly after. Further issues, including explosions, were reported by others after this.

Samsung admitted to confirming 35 cases up to today (Friday September 2) and they have been identified as battery problems. Not good after battery problems with the Galaxy S7.

Samsung Share Prices Falling

The Galaxy Note 7 was launched by Samsung on March 11, and Samsung enjoyed the best quarterly results for over two years due to record Smartphone earnings.  This latest issue is a potential disaster unless Samsung gets it fixed very rapidly.  Samsung shares are already falling. They fell by about 3% during trading in Seoul, but levelled out to about 2% down for the day.
